Mississippi State trolls Lane Kiffin with his own joke after the Bulldogs beat Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl

Mississippi State wasted no time Thursday night.

Moments after the Bulldogs beat Ole Miss 24-22 in the Egg Bowl, Mississippi State turned its social media attention to Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin.

The tweet was a reference for Kevin making headlines this week in connection to the open Auburn coaching job. He trolled a Mississippi journalist for reporting that he would resign as Ole Miss head coach on Friday and take the Auburn job.

Earlier this week, Columbus, Miss., TV anchor Jon Sokoloff tweeted that Kiffin was set to resign as Ole Miss coach and head to Auburn on Friday, Kiffin at first attempted to shoot the report down by quote-tweeting “that’s news to me Jon.” . Nice sources.”

Kiffin then created his own fake news release about Sokoloff’s future.

The Bulldogs, staying with the theme, had their tweet ready and waiting.

Will Rogers passed for two touchdowns and Mississippi State stopped a potential game-tying 2-point conversion with 1:25 remaining to preserve a 24-22 Egg Bowl win over No. 20 Ole Miss.

Mississippi State (8-4, 4-4 SEC) rallied from a 16-7 deficit in the second quarter with a 10-point outburst in the fourth quarter. Massimo Biscardi hit a go-ahead 34-yard field goal before Rogers connected on a 22-yard touchdown pass to Rara Thomas to build the 24-16 lead with 7:58 remaining.

Ole Miss answered when Jaxson Dart threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Dayton Wade with 1:25 left, capping a 99-yard drive and closing within 24-22. But, the 2-point try failed.
